The Social Media: a gift or a disaster

            Nowadays, our life can’t be separated with internet. Everybody needs internet. Internet is becoming an essential thing in our life at this time because everything seems going to be integrated with internet. Besides that, we can use internet for many things such as looking for information, connecting to people, paying our electric fee, sending file, etc. Talking about connecting to people, it’s always tightly related to social media. By using social media, we can still keep in touch with our relation, friend or even strange people around the world no matter whenever and wherever.

            Social media is greatly improved since a decade ago starting by Kaskus which was established in 2000. Social media looks like a compulsory thing that everyone should have. If we see comprehensively the function of social media, it actually gets good effect and bad effect as well. Those effects depend on how we use it.

            Social media is something which has water and fire inside. Talking about negative effects caused by social media, the scariest thing that might be caused my social media is it lengthens the distance among people surrounding. Social media sometimes makes us forget about our real life, as well as our real friends. It doesn’t stop from that. By using media, people could do something which is harmful for others. Take an example, people can use it for deceiving other through sell some product but they really didn’t send the product after the buyer has already sent the money.

            But, does it always give negative effects on us? The answer is absolutely no. Positively, social media can give us some good effects as long as we use it wisely and for positive purpose. For some people, they even call social media as a gift. By using social media, they could express their feeling, contact their relative or their friend and even they could use it as media in learning something. By social media, we can also share information, knowledge and or even our happiness. In addition, social media also becomes media they can use it for telling people about their existence. It’s right. We can use social media for many positive things.

            After knowing either good effects or bad effects caused by social media, indeed we could have seen that those effect are caused by depending on its usage. It is not fair if we say that social media always gives bad effect to us, it also can give us positive effects because proverb says that Every cloud has silver lining(s).
